Don't Be a Post Turtle!

While suturing a cut on the hand of a 75 year old rancher, who's hand was caught in the gate while working cattle, the doctor struck up a conversation with the old man. Eventually the topic got around to Obama being our president.

The old rancher said, "Well, ya know, Obama is just a 'Post Turtle'."

Not being familiar with the term, the doctor asked him what a "post turtle" was.

The old rancher said, "When you're driving down a country road and you come across a fence post with a turtle balanced on top, that's a 'post turtle'."

The old rancher saw the puzzled look on the doctor's face, so he continued to explain. "You know he didn't get up there by himself, he doesn't belong up there, he doesn't know what to do while he's up there and you just wonder what kind of dumb-ass put him up there to begin with."

Don't be a post turtle and hurray up and book me for your holiday party!

Magic in the Moonlight

Had a delightful time Saturday, October 3rd performing for the El Dorado Main Street Gala at the beautiful Hudson Gardens in El Dorado, Kansas. An intimate gathering of about 70 dined on a catered dinner of Kansas choice beef steak, followed by a performance of magic and illusion by yours truly. The moon was full and a good time was shared by all as laughter and amazement filled the cool October night air. We all

shared many magic moments including this one, where El Dorado Main Street's own Lindsay Baines assisted me in an illusion we call Sawing an Audience Member in Half!

After Dinner Magic

Had a great time Tuesday evening as the feature performer for the 2009 Kansas Association of Mappers annual conference at the Holiday Inn Select. These type of professional after dinner performances are a specialty of mine, as I love performing my brand of comedy magic to liven up a group of delegates who have spent a long day listening to the advantages of the latest widget that will revolutionize their chosen field. As the sterno flames slowly wane on the hotel buffet meal fare, and the last motivational speaker has had his say, the captive audience is ready for some full on fun!

Making people laugh has been a life long occupation for me. There is no greater sound to me than a room full of people eruptiung into a spontaneous roar of laughter, followed by the appreciative appluase from the magical rotuine that they have just witnessed. People love to watch their peers participate in the magic, and each of my performances capitalizes on the active participation of my audience, who then become the stars of the show!

Words of sarcasm from fictional movie hero, John McClane. Greetings and welcome to the inaugural kick-off of the Christopher Starr Magic blog.

After much deep deliberation, I have finally joined the blog-o-sphere, succumbing to the mantra of "resistance is futile - you, too will be assimilated".

These are the magical musings of a magician from the Heartland of America -Wichita, Kansas. Our hack-eyed mission: to explore strange, new performance video, to seek out new clients and to boldly go where no other Kansas based magic show has gone before - hopefully to a community theater near you.

My name is Christopher Starr, and I have been performing as a magician since I was a teenager in the 70s. At the tender age of 19, I presented my first, big illusion show at the Lyric Theatre in Kansas City, the youngest magician ever to do so in that grand venue. Throughout the 80s, I performed in colleges, comedy clubs and assorted venues such as home shows, private parties, etc. I retired from performing through much of the 90s, and made my 'comeback' in 2001. I have been performing a comedy magic and illusion show with my daughters ever since.

Theatrical magic has always held a special fascination for me. Like many young boys, I caught the magic bug at an early age after watching a magician on television. I regularly checked out books from the library on the subject, and desperately tried to master the difficult sleight of hand contain in the pages within those books. And while it was cool to do a few card tricks for family and friends, it was always the real magic that I longed to do: Sawing a Lady in Half, Levitation, and making people appear and disappear! To me, these were the things that real magicians did, not just the card and coin tricks as demonstrated in those dog-eared library books.

And so my magical journey to become one of those magicians that could levitate beautiful women began, and it is a journey that continues today.
